Affirmations

(On Conflict Resolution, Assertiveness, and Avoiding Violence)

The affirmations are positive statements, optimistic ways of viewing the world, the future and personal responsibility.

Today:

  • I will stand up for my rights.

  • I will admit it when I am wrong.

  • I will avoid unnecessary conflict.

  • I will respect the rights of other people.

  • I will say and do the right/loving thing.

  • I will not blame others for my problems.

  • I will not try to gain power over other people.

  • I will accept my shortcomings as part of who I am.

  • I will not urge my friends to fight when there is a conflict.

  • I will try to understand people who are different than me.

  • I do not have to be all-powerful to be a competent person.

  • I will do all I can to discourage my friends from carrying weapons.

  • I will be in control of my emotions. My emotions will not be in control of me.

  • I will avoid situations where I tend to get involved in unnecessary conflict or in violence.

  • When someone is trying to push me into a fight, I will walk away from violence and seek support for my decision.
