In 1998, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Health Promotion Branch, identified the Teen Health Centre as a community agency demonstrating leadership in the area of health promotion. For this reason, the Teen Health Centre received funding to operate the new Windsor FOCUS Community Program.
The goal of the Windsor FOCUS Community Program is to prevent alcohol and other drug abuse, including injuries associated with alcohol and other drug abuse. To accomplish this goal, Windsor FOCUS Community has planned for a variety of activities and initiatives targeting a wide range of audiences, such as children, students, youth, adults, seniors, families, parents, teachers and businesses. Along with implementing new activities, FOCUS partners with various community agencies, committees and groups to augment existing alcohol and drug prevention programs and activities in Windsor and Essex County. The geographic focus of some of FOCUS’ activities will be Windsor’s downtown core, but other activities will include areas of the city and county.
