Ecstasy is a stimulant, and like any stimulant, it causes an increase in

your heartbeat. As you know, ecstasy is often used at Rave dances. These dances are usually hot and crowded. Ecstasy itself causes dehydration.

There is a natural dehydration process that also occurs in situations where one is dancing for extended periods of time. Dehydration can cause your kidneys to shut down, which is LIFE THREATENING.

The other major area of concern with ecstasy is that it is ADDICTIVE. Many people who stop using the drug report unpleasant withdrawal effects. DEPRESSION and IRRITABILITY are two of the most common occurrences.

SHORT TERM EFFECTS OF ECSTASY

  • Large doses of the drug can lead to anxiety, panic and confusion.

  • After using the drug people often feel tired, depressed and hungry.

  • Loss of appetite when withdrawing from ecstasy is also common.

  • Effects of the drug are experienced within 20-60 minutes and can last for 3 6 hours.

LONG TERM EFFECTS OF ECSTASY

Ecstasy use has been linked to:

  • Possible brain damage

  • Changes in mood, sleep, appetite

  • Liver and kidney problems

  • Increased susceptibility to minor ailments such as colds, flu and sore throats

  • Increased risk of severe depression and other mental illnesses

  • Can cause DEATH
