Tailgating

The most common crash is tailgating. Prevent tailgating by keeping 4 seconds apart from in front of you. If someone is tailgating you, you compensate by increasing the amount of space between you and the vehicle ahead.

Blank Stares

Wave-ons       A police officer is the only person that can legally wave on or direct traffic and/or pedestrians. Wave-ons can be deadly for yourself and other drivers and pedestrians. Many people to except wave-ons without checking traffic themselves. If you feel the need to give a wave-on then turn your head to show the driver/pedestrian that you are waving them on.

 Themes of Driving

1. Space

2. Visibility

3. Communication

Space -Space gives you time! We need to the time to be proactive.

-Space needs to be all around the vehicle (ahead, beside and behind)

-Having space gives us time, which then allows for visibility

Visibility is needed to see everything around you, when visibility is reduced, increase your space ahead. Avoid being in a blind spot or having someone in your blind spot for longer than 3 seconds.

Communication protects your space and your visibility.

            Different ways to communicate are:

                        1. Position on the road

                        2. Speed of vehicle

                        3. Turning signals

                        4. Brake lights

                        5. Head lights

                        6. Horn

                        7. Acknowledgment of others

                                    -eye contact
